North Branch Projects goes on a Coffee Run!
North Branch Projects occupied the former Cafe Chien in Albany Park for the month of December 2017. In a casual pop-up shop setting, community binding sessions took place, workshops were taught by artists, and the work of local artists who make artists' books, zines, and other hand-made crafts were featured. A special Artist Preview took place on November 25 to kickstart the month-long holiday sale. Visitors stopped in to make or purchase books, drink coffee, and supported the creative community in various ways.

Book Meditation and Readings
Stitch books in a relaxing atmosphere with NBP staff. Readings and/or guest artists will perform for about an hour during the evening gathering. Share drinks or enjoy coffee and tea.

Book Release & Live Narration Performance and Party for "The View From A House in Kansas" by Teresa Pankratz
Join us for coffee, tea and holiday goodies to celebrate the 2017 publication of a text-only version of The View from a House in Kansas, Acts 1 to 5. Teresa will be performing a live narration of this coming of age tale (from a copy of her five-part, ten-piece, hand-made artists’ book of the same name) that incorporates musical interludes on toy piano, old-time radio sound effects and performed “acts”.
The 1 hour and 15 minute performance will begin at 2:30. Copies of the signed and numbered 2017 volume (complete with paper doll) are $20 each and will be available for purchase before and after the performance.

The Shape of A Bridge: Storytelling and POC Self-Publishing
Local zinesters and poets come together to share personal and collective narratives. Poets and panelists discuss their path into self-publishing, the need for creating writing/publishing spaces for POC (People of Color), as well as the role of storytelling as a critical art form.

2 Aunties Tea Time: Women Of Color in Comics
Charlotte Cha (Immortal Souls) and Sheika Lugtu (Cow House Press, Ladydrawers) love comics. They love it so much that sometimes they drive 60 miles an hour, wheezing in anger, talking about comics. Charlotte and Sheika are also in a state of constant side-eye at the underlying colonialism in the representation of Asian-American people and culture. With the recent surge of brown characters in mainstream media and heightened attention towards diverse franchises, these two aunties take a critical look at how the industry treats women and non-binary creators of color

This introduction to Gongfu tea 功夫茶 is a hands-on experience for beginners to learn more about a prominent Chinese method of tea brewing. You'll use a chawan (lidded tea cup) and other tea accessories to create beautiful cups of tea for yourself and others.
